Built in the Palladian style by Richard Castles for Sir Richard Wingfield in the early 1700s, the house was tragically consumed by fire in 1974 leaving only the walls standing, but was renovated after the fire in 1996 and reopened with an Avoca store and café at garden level. Spread over several interconnecting rooms and backing out onto a wide terrace café, this is another jewel in the Avoca crown.
Carrying the full range of our Avoca favourites and an especially wide range of gifts for the visitor, there are fashion and kidswear, books and soft furnishings, jewellery and aromatics, pottery and homewares, and an award-winning café and foodhall. And plenty of Avoca surprises.
Our restaurant has surely one of the most dramatic vistas of any. It boasts tall windows and French doors leading out to an expansive Garden Terrace with a simply breathtaking panorama of the gardens against a backdrop of Wicklow's famous Sugarloaf Mountain. The view is worth the visit alone. You can download our Take-out Catering menu here with lots of favourites from our Cafés.
Visitors to Avoca Powerscourt can enjoy a fantastic day out with all the Estate has to offer. Powerscourt Gardens are set on 47 acres and include Italian and Japanese gardens, statues and ornamental lakes, rambling walks, over 200 variations of trees and shrubs and a very unusual pet cemetery!
An audio visual exhibition at the house brings to life the rich history of the Estate. Also located on the Estate is Powerscourt Golf Club which has two championship golf courses and is one of Ireland’s top 20 parkland courses. The Garden Pavilion at Powerscourt features over 25,000 sq. feet of garden plants, shrubs and garden accessories.
